The TCBY at Colony Place shopping center is by far my favorite recent discovery. So much so that it's become a regular destination and treat, even though I'm really not much of a sweets or dessert person. The Colony Place store opened in April of this year, though sadly it took me till June to stop in and try it. Seriously, I lost two solid months of fro-yo goodness!!!! The first time we visited I was honestly surprised when we walked inside, it wasn't at all what I'd expected. It's a self serve design, so you can choose your flavors, mix and match while controlling the amount and then do the same with your toppings. Different, but I have to say I like it. Apparently Charlotte's Colony Place store was the first self-serve TCBY in the country. Sold by the ounce, the self-serve concept lets customers create and customize their own creations without having to stick to a pre-determined menu of options. Though it's self-serve the staff has always been friendly and available to answer questions every time I've visited. The Colony Place TCBY is locally owned by Samuel Batt who's also opening stores at Blakeney, Wesley Chapel and Birkdale in the coming months. So even if you're not within reach of the Colony Place store there are others on the way from Lake Norman to Union County! Check out the store's Facebook page and become a fan at: TCBY Colony Place on Facebook Oh, and the store's open till 11pm Mon-Sat, till 10pm on Sun for those spontaneous evening fro-yo excursions (not that I've ever done that, but just saying...) http://activerain.com Copyright©2010 by Diane McDermott
