By the end of August, Matthews will be home to a TCBY frozen yogurt shop. Matthews resident Samuel Batt plans to open the store in the Plantation Market shopping center off Weddington Road. It’ll be Batt’s seventh TCBY location since he became the first in the nation last April to open a self-serve TCBY frozen yogurt shop in south Charlotte’s Colony Place Shopping Center. The growth has even surprised 30-year-old Batt, who opened his first location in South Carolina last week. “Initially, the plan was really just to open a store. I really didn’t have plans to expand quickly,” he said. But when other frozen yogurt shops starting popping up, Batt changed his mind. “I said I could be happy with the one … or we can secure the best locations in town. So that’s what we’ve done,” he said. “It’s just so fun, I just can’t stop opening stores.” Batt chose Plantation Market, he said, because he knows the area well – he lives just down the street and shops at that Harris Teeter. He and his wife have two sons, ages 2 and 2 months. “The community out there just seems like a very supportive community,” he said, noting the Matthews location will have at least 10 yogurt flavors and more than 50 toppings. “I’m just a guy with a family and wants to be close to home and this is how I’m doing it.” Business Beat for June 17 Posted by CW Editor on June 17, 2011 by Kara Lopp
